Whether a child is your victim or your eyewitness, you must investigate and prepare for trial differently. We will look at the issues that confront investigators, forensic interviewers, and prosecutors when faced with a case involving a child. Tentative topics include: medical and visual diagnosis of child abuse, childhood developmental delays, forensic interviewing, unique defenses, building corroboration, and special considerations around child pornography and trafficking.

These issues to help you build your case: medical and visual diagnosis of child abuse, childhood developmental delays, forensic interviewing, unique defenses, building corroboration, and special considerations around child pornography and trafficking.

    • Medical and visual diagnosis of child abuse
    • How to handle defense experts
    • Finding and building corroboration
    • Pre-trial motions
    • The child’s developmental delays in interview and in trial prep
    • Special considerations in trafficking and teen girls
    • Interviewing the child abuse suspect
    • On-scene interviews to the complex investigation
    • Working with the victim’s family

Course Information

CLE: Anticipated CLE credits will be 15 hours including 1 hour of ethics. NDAA will apply for CLE credit in California, Virginia, Tennessee, and Ohio. All other states will require the attorney to self-submit using their uniform certificate provided at the conclusion of the course. Eligibility: Open to lawyers in local, state, tribal, federal and military government attorneys’ offices, paralegals who work in these offices, investigators and law enforcement officers who work in prosecutors’ offices or with the local law enforcement agency.

Special Discounts

  • The first attendee from an office pays full tuition; each additional attendee from the same office will receive a $50 discount when registered at the same time.
  • Multidisciplinary teams of three or more disciplines will receive a $50 discount on all registrations. Please email Stephanie Weston with your team members' contact information in order to receive the discount.
  • All active military members will receive a 10% discount on the course registration. Military members are not eligible for the $50 team discount.

Registration fees are non-refundable. However, if you need to cancel your registration, the fees paid may be credited toward any other NDAA training within twelve months from the date of the original cancellation.
