The Minnesota Correctional Facility – Shakopee, at 1010 West Sixth Avenue is situated within a single family residential area of Shakopee, Minnesota, on 45.6 acres parcel of land.  It is the only adult female facility in the state and houses all security levels.

Currently, there are 13 buildings on grounds including eight offender housing units, one industry and work program unit, one offender support services and administrative building and a plant maintenance building.

The prison previously had no perimeter fence or wall, only a hedge surrounding the property until 2016. This was after a bonding bill passed by the legislature of Minnesota in 2014 allowing for the erection of a twelve foot fence to surround the prison. Despite previously having no fence or wall only eight prisoners have been able to escape but all were later caught.

Over 550 women of all five custody levels are housed at MCF Shakopee.  Their crimes range from shoplifting to drugs, to murder, though many crimes involve passion, survival and support of a male leader. Offenders at Shakopee are all certified adults, convicted of crimes and sentenced to at least one year and one day.  The average age is thirty-six (36) and the average length of sentence is sixty-three (63) months.

MINNCOR provides offender job skill training, meaningful work, and teaches proper employment habits. Offenders assigned in Industry perform assembly functions; light packaging, light manufacturing and sewing. Education unit provides adult basic education (ABE) literacy, general educational development (GED) and law library services. Career/ Technical programs include Cosmetology, Office Support (Microsoft Office Suite, Business English and Business Math) and Heavy Equipment Operator. College classes are offered through collaboration with two local colleges. The Sunshine Service Dog program allows offenders to train service dogs. The facility can train 205 service dogs at any point.
