REGISTRATION FEE - $50 members
Registration is open to all non-attorney staff. Fee Includes: All training sessions, handouts, and meals for the registrant.

Paid registrations will be refunded in full if cancellation is received at least 72 hours before the program; if less than 72 hours, a $45 administration fee will be deducted. Paid registrants who fail to attend will  receive the written materials.

Participants are responsible for obtaining and paying for their own lodging. Below are hotels located in close proximity to the Stearns County Service Center, in order of distance to the meeting location. Government rates may be offered based on availability.

9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Emotional Intelligence: The New Science of Success
Emotional intelligence or EI refers to the ability to use your emotions intelligently, to gain the performance you wish to see within yourself, and to achieve interpersonal effectiveness with others. It has to do with how well we handle people, how we deal with set-backs and failures, how well we achieve our life goals, how we motivate ourselves, and how well we manage our emotions. It is the ability to understand what our emotions are telling us and then to choose appropriate action. In this presentation, participants will learn about the emotional competencies of self-awareness, self-management, social awareness that lead to interpersonal effectiveness in all business relationships.

Mental health crisis, standards for commitment, steps in the commitment process, Rule 20, MI, MI&D, TBI, what do all these things have in common? They are very familiar to those who work in the area of civil commitment, but are just a bunch of letters to those who don’t. This session will try to make sense out of some of these topics.

3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. The Role of the Assault Response Nurse
An assault response nurse plays a unique role in a time of crisis. They are registered nurses who are internationally certified in forensic nursing and have learned skills to help them connect with patients and make them feel safe. This session will provide a general overview of the program; discuss how evidence is collected, explain what they’re looking for during an exam, and why there’re different injuries for different bodies.
