1.00 Standard Credit - The Vulnerable Adult Act (VAA), Minnesota Statute 626.557, was passed in 1980 and establishes state policy for the protection of vulnerable adults and Minnesota‚Äôs adult protection system. While the VAA has been updated a few times since its passing in 1980, but the VAA has not been substantially reviewed in nearly 40 years.

The Department of Human Services, Aging and Adult Services Division, who provides policy guidance to county administered adult protective service programs, initiated a multi-phase project in 2019 to review the portion of the statute that impacts administrative investigation and adult protective services. This included review of state and national models and best practices, a stakeholder engagement process with findings that stakeholder values do not align with our current VAA. The final step of the Redesign will result in stakeholder policy recommendations.

This webinar will review major findings from the VAA redesign stakeholder engagement process, implications for state policy and next steps.
