12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. Lunch provided by MCAA poolside
1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. The Trouble with Guidelines
This session will highlight some of the issues Ramsey County has observed with the current guidelines chart and some possible remedies. This presentation was previously made to the Child Support Task Force with the hope that any revision of the guidelines will address these issues and thereby reduce the need for deviations and produce a more fair and collectible order.
Amy Anderson, Assistant Ramsey County Attorney
2:00 p.m. - 2:10 p.m. Break
3:10 p.m. - 4:10 p.m. Child Support Task Force Update and Feedback Session
The 2016 Minnesota Legislature established the Child Support Task Force for the Department of Human Services (DHS). See Minn. Stat. §518A.79. The charge of the Task Force is to advise the DHS Commissioner on matters relevant to maintaining effective and efficient child support guidelines that will best serve the children of Minnesota and take into account the changing dynamics of families. The Task Force began meeting in September of 2016.
Lisa Kontz, Assistant Dakota County Attorney, and Melissa Rossow, Assistant Ramsey County Attorney, both members of the Task Force, will report on the meetings to date, explain some of the legal complications associated with the current child support guidelines, and some of the proposed changes. They will also answer any questions about the current guidelines and proposals and listen to your ideas and thoughts in this feed-back session. Specific issues to be considered are the child support guidelines (grid) and the self-support reserve, as these are the first issues on which the Task Force is focused.
Lisa Kontz, Assistant Dakota County Attorney
Melissa Rossow, Assistant Division Director, Human Services Division, Ramsey County Attorney’s Office
