The Minnesota Correctional Facility-Rush City is a level four, close security facility for adult males. The $89 million facility opened in January 2000, and includes 415,953 square feet inside an 82-acre perimeter.  The security fence is 1 mile in length and consists of two 12-foot high chain link fences with 7 rolls of razor ribbon.

The facility provides a variety of programs including vocational and academic education, literacy, sex offender programming, general support employment, food service, maintenance and industry. Offenders employed in Industry include: Plastech, which works with a variety of private companies and provides assembly functions; Anagram, which includes folding balloons for an outside company; and DVS, which includes printing license plate stickers and license plates (in 2008 production of Minnesota license plates moved from the MCF-St. Cloud to Rush City. The move reflected St. Cloud's focus as a reception and intake facility and Rush City's industry focus).
